“Not using antibiotics in the livestock industry is not as easy as it seems.” Three farms for egg laying chickens located at Gahyeon 3‐ri, Tongjin‐eup, Kimpo, Gyeonggido. These farms produce the best quality eggs without using antibiotics.
Their chickens have fewer diseases and do not cause bad odors, thus getting no complaints from neighbours. The farmers say that all these would not be possible without “Sol‐to‐Bio”, which is a substitute for antibiotics, made by Seobong Bestech Co., Ltd. I visited their farms to find out what’s happening.

Natural mineral materials which can substitute antibiotics…
Patented in 26 countries worldwide… Excellent in increasing the immune system and improving quality.
Getting the spotlight from farms around the world.
▶Sol-to-Bio is a complex natural mineral material which cannot be found at any other place in the world. It was patented as a feed additive for animal feed in Korea in February 2001 with the patent no. 0343367, China in July 2005, US in March 2006, Japan in July 2006, Europe in November 2006, and now getting patents from 26 countries around the world.
△ It is effective as a substitute for antibiotics, improving the immune system, preventing and curing respiratory diseases, improving the quality of egg shells, and preventing fungi from growing in feeds. So, it has been reputed as a good feed additive by chicken farms throughout the nation.
■ Farmers say, “Our farm has been changed since we start using the product.”
The quality of eggs gets better and bad order is lessened, so that farmers do not worry about complaints from neighbours any more.
●‘Shinbi Farm (Mr. Kim Jeong-Bong as president)
‘Shinbi Farm (Mr. Kim Jeong-Bong as president) is a farm that raises as much as 10,000 egg laying chickens. Mr. Kim is an experienced farmer who has been managing the farm for more than 30 years.
Shinbi Farm has used Sol-to-Bio since 2002. 8 years have passed since they first used the product. He said, “The egg is strong that it is not easily broken or becomes rotten. In particular, the white and yolk of the eggs are not easily loosened.”
Mr. Kim said that the high quality makes his eggs sell very well. "Sometimes I cannot sell the eggs because they are already sold out. Now is the time when quality is the most important factor rather than quantity and price. Consumers want the best quality eggs," he said.
He attributed the reduction of the bad smell to Sol‐to‐Bio. “There were once a lot of complaints by residents living near the farm, particularly during windy days, even though the villages are far away from the farm. However, now I don’t worry about it anymore.”
After feeding them Sol‐to‐Bio, the chickens were not infected with any major diseases. President Kim said, “Now, the chickens do not get sick even in wintertime and season changing periods. Sol‐to‐Bio is significant in preventing diseases.”
He also said, “In addition, it is very effective in cost‐benefit analysis. So, I am going to continue to use the product in the future”. “I like the fact that I can produce quality eggs without using antibiotics, which would be harmful to humans if much of them are used.” “I would like to contribute to the health of people by producing quality eggs.”
Diseases have been significantly reduced with the death rate, saving a lot of production costs for farmers.
●‘Jang Pan-Jo, President of Inha Farm
Inha Farm (Mr. Jang Pan‐Jo as president) has 17,000 egg‐laying chickens. It has been specializing in raising egg‐laying chickens since 1995 with a daily production of 15,000 eggs.
Asked how that achievement was made, he indicated the introduction of advanced facilities and ventilation fans along with Sol‐to‐Bio. President Jang Pan‐Jo said, “I happened to feed it to my chickens. The efficacy of the product was immense. So, I have been feeding the products to my chickens since then.”
He said, "In particular, the disease rate has been greatly decreased along with the mortality rate. We had big problems with respiratory diseases. However, we received help from Sol‐to‐Bio as it seemed to be very effective in increasing the immune system. Since I started feeding the product to my chickens, the diseases rate has decreased. In the breakout of disease, the mortality rate is as low as 5%.”
There was a big effect on reduction in bad odour. As chickens have good digestion, the efficiency of feed has been enhanced, thus reducing the bad smell. Due to this effect, a number of complaints were also decreased. The quality of eggs has also been improved. First of all, the color became clearer. In addition, as there was less broken eggs, the loss was reduced. Mr. Jang said, “Sol‐to‐Bio is a very useful product for cost down efforts. Considering the various kinds of effects, it gives a big contribution to farmers.”
The knowhow on raising egg‐laying chickens which Mr. Jang introduces to us is the management of ventilation. If all doors of the hen house are closed, the immune systems of chickens are weakened, thus increasing the probability of getting diseases. He told me that the best way to raise productivity is to find out the best ventilation method appropriate to the hen house and to act on it.
Inha Farm has converted its earlier hen houses into advanced hen houses in April this year. On top of that, it has installed the automatic egg selection machine, thus improving the work efficiency. Mr. Jang said, “The only way to survive in this difficult management environment is through eco‐friendly and high quality livestock management.” He emphasized that he would do his best to achieve that goal.
●Lee Sang-Jong, president of Eunhye Farm
Eunhye Farm has 9,300 egg‐laying chickens. It has been raising egg-laying chickens for 21 years since 1988. This farm has been supplying egg products with brands such as Wellbeing Fresh Egg, Wellbeing King Egg, and Nutritious Egg to general customers, restaurants and markets.
As he meets directly with consumers, he gets the information straight from them on the quality of the eggs he sells. President Lee said, “Since I fed Sol‐to‐Bio to chickens, consumers have said that the quality of the eggs had improved a lot”. He also said that the sales of eggs had greatly increased due to the product.
“When the chicken gets older, its egg productivity decreases. However, owing to Sol‐to‐Bio, the production of eggs has not decreased. Especially since antibiotics are not required any more, we can supply the eggs to consumers with confidence.”
President Lee was very satisfied with the quality of eggs. At first he thought that the product would just be the same as the others. However, he became an enthusiastic fan of the product, enough to persuade other farmers to use it.
“When the preservation of eggs may be difficult in summer time, the eggs may become rotten. However, the Sol‐to‐Bio eggs are keeping their quality for a long period of time with the yolk and white of the egg alive.
He also added, “The mortality rate of chickens was usually 10% when a disease broke out. However, the rate now goes down to less than 5%. Especially, when we use Sol‐to‐Bio, there is no need to use other medicines for animals. The reduced cost of medicine helps the economies of farmers."
Chickens fed with Sol‐to‐Bio grew fast and became resistant to diseases. On top of that, the effect of odor removal leads the way to eco‐friendly farming. President Lee said that he would enhance the quality of eggs, the food loved by people the most by pursuing eco‐friendly farming, and finally contributing to the health of the people.
