" Biotite V was effective "
Kumnam Farm cleaned up PMWS without a serious damage
Farm interview – Kumnam Pig Farm, located at Yeongi-gun Chungcheongnam-do, Korea
"I could eliminate PMWS in the farm with the help of Biotite V" said Mr. Kim, Kwon-jung, the owner of Kumnam Pig Farm in Yeonki-gun, Chungnam Province, Korea, who had been through hard time with PMWS outbreak which has been plagued in many pig farms all around the country since last winter. However, his loss wasn’t such big compared to other farms. Kumnam farm has 180 sows and total 6 pig housing facilities: each one for pregnant sows, delivering sows, piglets, growing pigs, finishing pigs, and one playground. All in/all our is a must be kept rule in the farm. Pigs are weaned at 23-25 days and sow replacement rate is 40%.
Moreover, more than 90% of pigs for market in the farm has been A or B graded and they are being sold as a brand pork, “Gil-pork,” by Daejeon &Choongnam Pig Cooperative.
With a tight farm management and good sanitary practices, the farm had recorded around 2% of piglet mortality rate, but the mortality rate went up to 10% since the outbreak of PMWS.
Mr. Kim recalls "When I first encountered the fast increasing deaths of piglets, I didn’t know what to do and it was so painful. But, the damage was not big and I could eliminate the disease at an early stage. How lucky I was."
Upon the out break of PMWS, Mr. Kim considerably reinforced the supply of nutrition to sows and piglets. He gave intensive care to those pigs by adding blood powder and yellow earth to sows and blood powder and milk replacer to piglets.
He carefully treated pigs during 10 days after weaning and made sows exercise for their strong rear legs.
He said "I have never experienced such disease like PMWS in my 15 years pig farming” and “continuous use of Biotite V might have helped to eliminate the disease.”
He stressed "several thousands of medicine cost reduced significantly after Biotite V and the product seems to improve pigs’ resistance against diseases."
Mr. Kim came to know Biotite V from Soltobio three years ago. When pig farms in Yeonki province participated in the test trials on Biotite V, Kumnam Pig Farm was one of them.
Mr. Kim emphasized "I think the prevention of PMWS is the most important. Biotite V can work fully as antibiotics replacement through immune system improvement of pigs and significant medicine cost reduction."
Mr. Kim added Biotite V seemed to fit in his goal to produce tasty and safe pork meat.
