Kwon, Young-hoe farm owner

Year by year, demands for environment friendly management are increasing in almost all industrial sectors including livestock industry. Such needs of the times inevitably raised the concerns on handling feces and ammonia gas in animal farms together with the labor shortages more than ever. It is no wonder a lot of layer farms are seeking after ways to protect environment and secure product quality while not spending much on such activities.

Here are two layer farms which have solved the environment problems and succeeded in producing high quality eggs through Biotite V, developed as an environment friendly antibiotics replacement by SoltoBio (the Brand name of Seobong BioBestech Co., Ltd.).

" Smell of chicken feces has gone "

Mr. Kwon, Young-hoe, 56, the owner of a farm with 18,000 layers at Gangcheon-myeon, Yecheon-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, has just liberated from the worry about ammonia gas smell after Biotite V inclusion in feed.

10 years in broilers and 15 years in layers, respectively, have gone leaving 25 years of experience in chicken farming to him.

Mr. Kwon has continuously improved egg production rate and decreased broken and soft egg production rate with the years-long experience and Know-How. The productivity of the farm is not less than any other farms. His thorough and meticulous management made the outbreak of diseases in the farm an old story.

Even in his farm, however, ammonia gas smell has been lingering on and the effective elimination of the gas has been his only worry. Though the farm is quite afar from the neighborhood of 70 households, the smell of feces reached out to the village so many times, especially, when it was clear and windy. And the complaints from the village came instantly. To remove the smell, he had used all the materials available like probiotics, etc., but the results were not satisfactory.

In the mean time, he found Biotite V and used it for three months from March 2003, and the worry about smells has gone for the while.

Mr. Kwon looked satisfied, “Biotite V is almost perfect in eliminating smells. Before, people in the neighborhood sometimes railed at and made a petition against me. They couldn’t open the windows in summer because of the smell. But things have changed. I don’t need to give them pork meats as a present to soothe their complaints.”

According to Mr. Kwon, smell can be removed by following next steps, firstly, clean up the feces in the aviary, and then provide Biotite V. It’s quite simple. Mr. Kwon explained that where the old feces are left significantly different effects could not be found, but after cleaning up the aviary, the effects are demonstrably positive.

One of the effects was the decreased watery feces. Consequently, fermentation process with sawdust was not needed. Only drying the feces enabled him to make additional profit by selling them (the feces as fertilizer).

He also said that the quality of eggs has improved; the color of eggs is vivid, and broken eggs decreased. Losses went down compared to before Biotite V. Mr. Kwon looked delighted when he tells that egg distributors visited the farm and asked his eggs suggesting more money. He told that it was like receiving a year-end bonus.

When questioned the Know-How of the successful farm management, his answer was sincerity. He responded the job like raising animals demands sincerity. “Without sincerity, it is almost impossible to deal with stressed animals and to cope with rapidly changing environments, and the results must be worse than expected,” he explained.

He spoke out and ended the interview pointing out the problems of domestic layer industry, “formerly, I could buy two bottles of rice wine and 600g of pork meat with 60 eggs. However, only egg price has been unchanged for the past couple of decades. Though layer industry provides higher level of self-sufficiency rate than other livestock industry, it doesn’t give the farms profits.
