CATTLE’S RESUME (IDENTICAL NUMBER) WILL BE ATTACHED ON ALL BEEF CATTLE IN KOREA

 

  Probably, you have been concerned about the meet quality if it is safe enough to eat when you buy beef.

  From 2nd half of next year, resume will be attached on beef as well.

  This report from Baek Sung Woo:
  Here I am at the corner of high grade Korean beef in a big supermarket of Seoul. Identical numbers are attached on all the beef package. I have pressed nine digit number on the computer touch screen. I can see at a glance where the cattle was grown, who was the owner, its butchery, its age and its grade. In addition, it contains the information about what kinds of feeds the cattle had, what sorts of medical operation it had, etc. Totally there is information on 16 factors. Actually it is like resume of the beef.

  Customer (Mrs. Lee):
  “So, we can eat the beef without worry since we can see the full history of the cattle.”

  The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has determined to expand this ‘beef resume system’ currently operated as a trial to all Korean beef cattle from 2nd half of next year.

  Identical numbers will be attached on all the beef being sold in all the 45,000 butcher’s shops through out Korea and consumers will be able to check their history at once on the internet.

  Korean government will start attaching identical number at the ears of all the cattle of 2,600,000 heads.

  A manager of Livestock Farm Products Sanitation (Mr. Yoon from The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry): “If mad cow disease factor is discovered, we are able to chase immediately where the cattle was grown and where it was slaughtered.”

  It will be helpful for us to compete with the being imported American origin beef cattle.
